Five AI use cases you can pilot in 30 days — without a big budget

Five practical AI pilots — from an HR policy assistant to automated MIS summaries — and how to run them safely in 30 days.

Many organisations feel they are behind on AI. Teams experiment with public tools, leaders read about large programmes, and very little reaches everyday work. The fastest way forward is usually not a big strategy document. It is one well-chosen pilot, run properly, that proves value in a month.

Five use cases that fit a 30-day pilot

  • HR policy assistant. Employees ask questions about leave, travel or benefits and get answers drawn from your own policies, with links to the source. HR teams spend less time on repeat queries.
  • Invoice and document extraction. Supplier invoices, forms or certificates are read automatically and key fields captured for review, cutting manual data entry.
  • Customer and dealer query triage. Routine questions on orders, schemes or products are answered consistently; complex cases are routed to the right person.
  • Weekly MIS summary. Numbers from existing reports are summarised in plain language, highlighting what moved and why it matters.
  • First drafts. Reports, proposals and standard letters are drafted from templates and data, then reviewed and finalised by people.

How to run a pilot that proves something

  • Pick one process with a clear owner and a measurable pain point — hours spent, turnaround time or error rate.
  • Define success before you start, for example 70 percent of routine queries answered correctly.
  • Use your own content and data, with access controls and personal data minimised.
  • Test accuracy on a set of real examples before users rely on it, and keep a person in the loop for decisions that matter.
  • At day 30, decide: stop, improve or scale.

Mind the guardrails

Even small pilots handle real information. Keep confidential and personal data out of public tools, use approved platforms, and record what the pilot does with data. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act applies to personal data used in AI just as it does elsewhere, and good habits formed in a pilot carry through to production.

The bottom line

AI value comes from focus, not volume. One successful pilot builds confidence, skills and a business case for the next. Start small, measure honestly and scale what works.
